I dont know the answer, but my fiance' just got a new apartment. Every time the air comes on I sneeze like crazy and my face becomes a faucet. I leave and it gets better. I wish I knew what to do.

It really depends on the damage on your air conditioner but I am pretty sure it would less than buying a new one.

wire size is dictated by the breaker size. The breaker protects the wire, so I doubt a 5000 BtU AC units needs any more than a 15 amp circuit 110volt (but check the unit electrical specs).
In Ontario, Canada, you would use a 15 amp breaker and the max wire size that a 15 amp breaker will protect is 14 guage. If you put a 20 amp breaker on a 14 guage wired circuit, you could concievably run 20 amps thru wire rated for 15 amps and cause it to heat up and it could start a fire.

Try to adjust the air flow from all your vents. Other vents in your house may be closed and building up a higher than normal pressure in the ducts. I would check the other vents to ensure they are not blocked and ensure they are open, reduce the pressure, reduce the velocity, reduce the noise.
You need to move 400 cfm per ton of cooling. Perhaps your air handler speed is set too high. You might want the installing contractor to come back and take readings to adjust the airflow to design perameters.

Why would anyone who knows how to do this tell you? This is a trade like any other and you want me to tell you how to do my job so you don't have to hire me to do it????
Step one, start an apprenticeship. After 5 years, step two would be to install your own air conditioner.

Technicians spend 5 years learning to diagnose these types of problems. It would therefore be impossible to tell you whats wrong in an e-mail. If you checked the obvious, filters, breakers etc., the next step is to call a local technician.

Are you asking if leaving your computer on all the time will reduce your usage of natural gas? The answer is no. Im sure your computer puts out heat but it would be comparable to heating your house with a light bulb. I doubt it would make any difference in your natural gas usage.
